The Royal Oak is a traditional country pub located in the hamlet of Rye Foreign, on the A268, close to the Cinque Port of Rye in East Sussex. Rye Foreign dates back to 1247, when King Henry III, took back control of Rye and Winchelsea from the Abbey of Fecamp, in Normandy but left part of the area still under the stewardship of the Abbey – hence the name Rye Foreign.
The village consists of a few scattered cottages and farms and a population of just 354. The village once included a church but this was disbanded in 1934.
The Royal Oak Rye Foreign has a loyal local customer base but is also popular amongst tourists, visitors and day trippers to the area. Close to Rye, Hastings and the Romney Marsh, a stay at the pub affords a central base convenient for those wishing to tour East Sussex and Kent.
In addition to our well stocked bar and traditional, home cooked menu, the Royal Oak Rye Foreign also boasts chalet accommodation offering Bed and Breakfast.
So, if you’re looking to visit the Rye area, why not try the Royal Oak Rye Foreign? For lunch, for dinner, for a snack or just for a drink – you won’t be disappointed.
